Stands of tall native grasses have returned to the Sutherland Valley, a carpet of grama grasses sways in the breeze. The call of a cow mixes with cactus wrens’ rattles, but close to the washes there is more evidence of quail and deer than manure.  A canopy of hackberry, desert willow, Arizona ash and velvet mesquite shades the trail.  In the spring, each will send out its own distinct fragrance.  Mountain bluebirds, vermillion flycatchers and summer tanagers have returned.  Perhaps one might even glimpse a golden eagle or a grey fox, a Gila monster or bobcat.  Occasionally, one encounters a work of art, a bench or a plaque offering scientific context or a poet’s muse.  This is a place capable of awakening one’s senses, fueling imagination and stimulating thoughtful inquiry.  

In a nutshell, the Genius Loci Foundation envisions art and nature coexisting as profound symbiotic forces.
